Bem-te-vi
I have a passion for “bem-te-vis”! It is
not recent...
Where I lived for twenty-five years, they
were my partners. From the window in my room, I listened to them, announcing a
new morning.
At the sight of them, my heart starts
beating faster! I find them beautiful!Seductive ! Their song moves me. It seems
that they talk to me. I even taped it, to listen to it whenever I wanted... or
when I missed them...
They are extremely mutual: if I’m sad, they
try to cheer me up; when I’m happy, they share my joy in communion.
Cecília Meireles, a Brazilian poet,
dedicated beautiful words to them and found out that some of them only sing TI
VI! It’s true!
Another mystery that had puzzled me for a
long time: which bird was responsible for that metallic sound around
half past five, in the dawn? It used to wake me up! Sometimes it made me furious
(especially on the weekends…)
I tried, for several times, in vain, to
identify the responsible for such task.
Resigned, I gave it up.
In my new apartment, happens that, one day,
I heard that sound in the dawn! Without believing in eyes, I identify the owner
of that potent voice: a small “bem-te-vi”! In the top of the building next to
my window, resting in the lightning –rod… ruling over the Laranjeiras valley!
Sovereign, waking us all up, to enjoy the
spectacle that nature had prepared for a whole night, just to offers us!
